Our $20 Check-In Trick Tips
First, when you approach the front desk, be extremely positive and upbeat. We always try to be really cute and emphasize how excited we are to be in Las Vegas and let them know if there is something that we are celebrating (i.e. Anniversary, Wedding, Birthday, etc.). Second, we've had great results by simply having the $20 bill out and visible on the desk next to our other hand as we pass over our ID and Credit Card. The process of "sandwiching" the $20 bill feels somewhat sketchy and, in our experience, it usually falls out of it's position between your ID and card. Third and finally, have some goals in mind for what you'd like to get. At the minimum, an updated room with a great view should be possible. If you are staying during the week, don't be afraid to ask for more, because they usually have more options available.
Our Results:
Paris Hotel and Casino - We did really well at the Paris Hotel and Casino. We did the $20 Check-In Trick and were upgraded to an updated King Bed Red Room Mini-Suite for 7 nights. The view was absolutely amazing with the Eiffel Tower and Bellagio Fountains directly in front of us! Pictures of the Room and View.
Caesars Palace - We had an amazing stay at Caesars on our most recent trip. We were upgraded to an updated King Bed Room in the Julius Tower. The view was spectacular as we drank coffee and mimosas over looking our very own Roman Forum and Pool. Check out our April 2017 Las Vegas Trip YouTube video for how awesome the room and view were!
Flamingo Hotel and Casino - We stayed at the Flamingo on two separate trips last year. The $20 trick worked for both. On both trips, we were able to get beautiful views of the strip in updated rooms and even got a few free things that usually cost extra at the Flamingo. The front desk clerk sent us up a free refrigerator and coffee maker for the week for our room, which usually costs around $20/night at the Flamingo.
Trump International Hotel Las Vegas - We tried the $20 trick at the Trump International and we had mixed success. They weren't able to offer us a comped upgrade, but they were able to offer us an upgrade for a small up charge. We booked the room for a heavy discount with Priceline's "Name Your Price" feature ($69/night for three nights), so we took their offer. We got upgraded to an amazing room with a huge king sized bed, a luxury bathroom with a jacuzzi and shower (TVs built into the mirrors), a separate room with a huge flat screen TV, multiple couches, a half bath, and a kitchenette. When even had a strip view! The up charge was a whopping $15/night, so it felt like a huge bargain to us!
